After a long year in which I've not been painting due to vision and health delays.  I jumped back into my studio to painting this large commission, 24x36. It was just the right project to motivate me again and I'm happy to report I have a very pleased client.

I love silver and reflections! This silver pot is called a "slop bowl" or "tea waste bowl" in my silver set found on ebay. The function is to be available for tea leaves and cold water or other discards, but really! Can't there be a better name for such a fine object? I did find two alternate terms that sound better to my ear, alms dish and ort bowl.

A pet portrait always. makes a great gift to a loved one, friend or to self!! This painting of Tucker was a Christmas present commissioned by a longtime collector for her husband. Their "best friend" has been sorely missed but it brings the family joy that his painting now hangs near his favorite spot. It is a pleasure to bring sweet memories to their minds each day of their sweet boy.

These beautiful roses bloom every spring at our church in the memorial garden. The garden of various flowers and sculptures are lovingly designed, planted and tended to by church members and each Sunday I love checking out what is in bloom with camera phone in hand. The Sunday I took a shot of this rose, I happily skipped into church knowing I had a future painting in my pocket.

I have a good collection of vintage cooking utensils and get excited when using some in a still life paintings. It brings me happiness when these cooking subject paintings take people back to fond childhood memories. This was the case with the new owner of this piece, a much valued collector.

Another one finished ( many hours on this one ) and out the door. I had fun learning how to shuck oysters and then how to dispose of them without leaving an odor.  A screw driver and hammer did the job! Sorry, raw oysters purchased only to paint and had to throw out, being afraid to eat these props. I know that disturbs someone out there. Personally I will not eat them anyway.

Strawberries are in the stores again and beautiful. They seem to be a favorite subject in still life paintings and it is difficult to pass them by in the market while shopping. I almost feel guilt if I don't take them home and at least take some photos for a potential painting. These were paired with my dented silver creamer that has a mid-century vibe, another treasure found at an estate sale.

It is very convenient to have photos of flowers for potential paintings during any season. When fall and winter have arrived we can still enjoy our favorite flowers and Hydrangeas are one of my favorite delights. I paired these blooms with the yellow stripes to cause those beautiful blues to pop!

Mom's Candlewick pieces are treasures and the addition of luscious red ripe berries made for a special painting. The shadows from the rim of glass balls definitely steal the show!!

I finally decided to paint this treasured "prop" and love the way it developed. Several years ago when my husband worked for a wholesale nursery he began bringing home abandoned nests that were found in bushes and trees arriving from the growers. It's sad really that those mommy birds lost their nest and sometimes offspring but I'm thankful to have a good collection of nests. This one is by far the most creative and colorful and the painting is very close to the actual nest. It's an amazing example of how resourceful God's creatures can be. This sweet mom had a real flare for interior design. ( These eggs are non-GMO :)

Fresh figs from a neighbor! That's always welcomed with a quick set up for a painting. I loved painting the many color variations found on the succulent forms. I also took photos for future fig paintings. Stay tuned!

This view of Murrells Inlet at sunset is probably familiar if you follow my work.  An earlier painting caught the eye of a client that commissioned me to paint a larger version with his personal boat in the scene. I was happy to oblige!

Several years ago when my husband and I dreamed of moving to the beach we had set up a Pier-Cam on our computer for Avalon Fishing Pier in Kill Devil Hills, NC. No particular reason other than to look at the changing weather over the ocean in live photos captured in the Cam placed on the pier. I "grabbed" a few stills and drew one out on a gessobord to paint but never got around to it. Last week I spotted the abandoned board and put color to it.
