These beautiful roses bloom every spring at our church in the memorial garden. The garden of various flowers and sculptures are lovingly designed, planted and tended to by church members and each Sunday I love checking out what is in bloom with camera phone in hand. The Sunday I took a shot of this rose, I happily skipped into church knowing I had a future painting in my pocket.

It is very convenient to have photos of flowers for potential paintings during any season. When fall and winter have arrived we can still enjoy our favorite flowers and Hydrangeas are one of my favorite delights. I paired these blooms with the yellow stripes to cause those beautiful blues to pop!

I'm loving some new Linen panels from Jerry's Artarama by Senso. They are mdf board wrapped with linen and retain the nature linen color gessoed with a clear gesso.  They have a lovely texture that really encourages me to put the strokes down looser. The painting goes much quicker than on my usual Gessobord with the smooth surface but Gessobord is still my favorite  for super realistic painting but I'm going to stock up on these! It was a good day in the studio and it started my week off with great expectations. I’m developing a passion for floral art as a result of studying other great paintings and also as a result of my last commission. As I’m being influenced by the gorgeous, loose and painterly styles that I so admire in other artists’ work, I’m moving away from my very precise still life paintings for a while. It is so freeing and so much fun!!! I think my favorite part of this little piece is the blue bits on the petals reflecting the sky. What marvelous color in God’s creation!!! Please enlarge and enjoy the luscious brush strokes of pure color!!!

This series was a pure delight to produce and a departure from my usual still life paintings. However I did a series of four similar paintings in 2016 that was the inspiration for my collector who commissioned the work. I'm so happy to know they will be hanging in a gorgeous Southern home!
