White Roses - SOLD

"Rose Beauties"
8"x 6" Oil on Gessobord
$175.00
sold

After a few rose studies under my belt, I feel like I'm beginning to be happy with the results. The colors in this rose were so varied that it was a pleasure to work on achieving the variations accurately.

Sunny Day Roses

"Sunny Day Roses"
6"x 8" oil on Gessobord

$99 + S&H
at marilynmking@yahoo.com

It was a good day in the studio and it started my week off with great expectations. I’m developing a passion for floral art as a result of studying other great paintings and also as a result of my last commission. As I’m being influenced by the gorgeous, loose and painterly styles that I so admire in other artists’ work, I’m moving away from my very precise still life paintings for a while. It is so freeing and so much fun!!! I think my favorite part of this little piece is the blue bits on the petals reflecting the sky. What marvelous color in God’s creation!!! Please enlarge and enjoy the luscious brush strokes of pure color!!!

I’m including some progression shots for those interested.

Lemons and Blueberries - SOLD

"Bowl of Lemons with Blueberries"
6"x 8" Oil on Gessobord
sold

Thank you for visiting my website. I appreciate all the support I have on FB and instagram but since I've been back to painting after a 4 year "break" I have noticed that blogging is not as popular as it once was. I guess the format is a little more time consuming and other means of posting artwork reaches a greater audience. It doesn't appear that artists are shutting down their blogs but just aren't as consistent in posting on them. For now my blog is my "website" and a really good journal of my work over the years. I don't know a better way to archive past works for viewers and myself. For that reason alone I keep it going. I welcome any comments about artists and blogging in 2018.

I enjoyed painting this painting for the color change. No red in this one! The background is my favorite color and it looks so beautiful with the yellow lemons. It is a funny thing but still life paintings with anything red as subject matter seem to be favorites. I've painted a lot of strawberries, red jelly, red grapes, etc of late and many by request or commission. It's nice to have a break from red!

Red Grapes on Silver Pedestal Plate — SOLD

"Red Grapes on Display"
6"x 8"x 1/8" Oil on Gessobord
SOLD

I’ve been watching some art videos lately and was inspired to approach this still life a bit differently. I premixed my paint for the most part rather than mix as I go along and I blocked in color all over the canvas before finishing any one area. I’ll continue this my next painting—seems to keep my colors cleaner and see my all important values better.

Black Grapes with Pottery—SOLD

"Black grapes with Pottery"
6" x 8" x 1/8" Oil on Gessobord
SOLD

Aren't black grapes beautiful? Every now and then there is one with a little rose blush and the blue highlights that skim over the surface of all was a fun challenge. I am always learning how to depict new subjects––I will never run out of things to paint!

Mandarines and Skittles - SOLD

"Cuties"
6"x 8" x1/8" Oil on Gessobord
commission

This commission really took me back to my illustration days. The client conceptualized the "story" and suggested the layout/design. She wanted to capture memories of the skiing breaks with her grandkids as they enjoyed their favorite snacks. The hardware on the table is painted from the provided photo of an actual lodge table they frequent but the snow is artificial. A really cute idea for a still life and I hope she loves it!
Yes, I did eat the props and Skittles are NOT on my current diet!

Strawberries and Silver Cup - SOLD

"Strawberries and Silver Cup"
6"x 8"x 7/8"  Oil on linen mounted on cradled wooden panel
SOLD
Yesterday I finished the companion piece to a still life painting of plums. The collector wanted strawberries to pair with the 6"x 8" plums and I think she will love it! I've included a photo of both in my drying box so you can see how they appear together.
I'm wanting beach weather to return!! so I'm itching to paint a beach scene next. I have some reference photos taken in November when folks were still wearing swimsuits. Stay tuned....

Fresh Strawberries - SOLD

“Fresh Berries”
6”x 6”x 1/8” Oil on Gessobord
SOLD

Strawberries are abundant this year from California and Florida. They are such a beautiful fruit to paint and I improve my technique each study I do. Those seeds and highlights are time consuming but therapeutic due to my love of detail. As the set up aged the aroma of strawberries filled my studio and these were as sweet as they look, yum!

Two Plums and Silver Creamer - SOLD

”Two Plums in Morning Light”
6”x 8” x 7/8” Oil on linen mounted on wood.
SOLD

Plums and pears are my favorite fruits to paint. I just love the challenge of painting that blue haze that floats on the surface of Plums. This painting on my iPad loses the cool blue of the background. Lately I’ve been frustrated with the inconsistency of colors from one device to another. On my phone the blues are true. My recent honey jar was the worst, colors appear different on phone, iPad, computer and eBay listing!

I’m excited to say that this painting sold within 4 minutes of being posted on FB! Fastest sale ever!

Peeled Orange - SOLD

"A Hundred Ways to Peel an Orange"
6"x 8" Oil on Gessobord

SOLD

I had a great day in the studio with this little painting. It just seemed to paint itself probably due to the great subject and the interesting glow from the backlighting. Orange paintings are favorites with my collectors and I feel this one may be a hit.

Strawberry Jam - SOLD

"Strawberry Jam"
6"x 8"x 7/8" Oil on cradled Gessobord

Jar of Honey and Honeycomb

"Honey and Honeycomb”
6"x 8"x 1/2" Oil on gessoed board.
n/f/s
This jar of honey containing the honeycomb was purchased over two years ago with the intention of painting it. I refused to open it until ready to paint! So glad I saved it for I do believe it provided a worthy subject for a little painting. I love the warmth of that translucent reddish sticky sweetness!

Strawberries with Silver Creamer- SOLD

“Strawberries with Silver Creamer”
5”x 7”x 1/8” Oil on Gessobord
Sold

I’ll have a hard time releasing this one. I collect various silver pieces found at antique stores and garage sales and this creamer has such a pleasing shape. The red berries against the cool silver was the perfect pairing.
