DSFDF 2009 Portrait Swap
8"x 10" Oil on linen panel.
This painting has been submitted to the 2009 portrait swap challenge on Karin Jurick's blog. After a year of biweekly challenges Karin gives each participating artist a "mystery" artist to paint for the month of December. That artist is painting our own portrait and at the end of the month we swap our portraits. It is something we all look forward to and I can't wait to see who this lovely artist is. Check out Karin's blog, "Different Strokes for Different Strokes" to see the different portraits posted all month.
I worked on this painting over two days, keeping the painting wet in the freezer overnight to continue to work wet into wet. The total time was about 12 hours. I hope she loves it and it is somewhat of a likeness. The funny thing is that I see myself in this portrait. That scares me a bit. hehe.

you are good.
I can say it's a very good likeness! Nicely done!
This is a wonderful portrait Marilyn and a very good likeness...all the many hours paid off! She should love it! I think her initials are S.C.
I've read before that artist's often unintentionally put their likeness in portraits.
Marilyn, that portrait is beyond good. You absolutely nailed the likeness. Just beautiful.
wow what a lovely portrait, I recognized who it was immediately, but I am not telling. She will love this I am sure.
Great portrait, Marilyn. I love the way you handled her hair and expression.
I was thinking the face had some similarities also. You must post the painting done for you too! When you get it ;)
Excellent capture Marilyn! Very impressive portrait!
Really great job!!!
I do know who this artist is...wow...did you nail the likeness...quite an impressive portrait. Am sure this will be one of the top entries. Your artist is also a portrait painter so you should be well pleased with her likeness of your photo. 10 hours...well worth the time spent!!!
Absolutely gorgeous portrait!
Thanks to all! I'm responding by email due to the Chinese taking over my automatic comments. They are trying to sell everything from viagra to luxury hotel suites (with "entertainment") through my comments section. I used google translator to see what all those Chinese characters where saying! glad I did. I get several a day! Help!
Love the palette you use and wonderful portrait :)
It is definitely an amazing likeness and she will surely love it. What Rick said -- you are good!
Very nice.
I am sure that she will love this.
I love the way you worked her hair.
Great painting Marilyn. You have a real knack for portraits, even though I know, you don't do many.
Fantastic portrait, Marilyn. Likeness and textures, all so good! :wow: I wish I could paint portraits this good!
A very nice , fresh portrait. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one the Chinese are infiltrating. My comment lead to what looked like a porn site!!

Excellent portrait, Marilyn! Love the likeness and your choices to change certain elements from the photo to achieve a stronger painting!
This is a very nice painting. Looks just like her. I'm anxious to see your exchange portrait. Interesting about your likeness being mingled in as well. You will enjoy knowing her.
Right now I'm watching a recorded live presentation of Susan Carlin painting your portrait. She sent me here. So far she's sketching you in. This portrait you've done of her is fabulous. Looks just like her.
Absolutely beautiful, Marilyn! You so captured Susan's lovely spirit. Wow!
