Pomegranate and Silver Goblet - SOLD

"Pomegranate and Silver Goblet"

5"x 7" Oil on Gessobord

sold

I'm getting some mileage out of this $2 pomegranate. The last painting of it with the Delft Vase was a money maker and I'm hoping for another one.

It is often surprising which paintings sell and which don't. Often my favorites just sit around and keep me company and some forgotten painting that has been on ebay for eons will suddenly sell. I'm beginning to think that there is no way to know what painting will strike a cord for someone. There are so many factors that can speak to someone- subject, color, size, mood, style, artist's name- any or all of these can cause a viewer to fall in love with a painting.

So I have learned not to "plan" paintings for a sale. Just paint! You waste your time setting out to paint a "seller".

I had that happen with the patchwork clothing all the time. Sometimes everything would sell other than the one dress or skirt that I thought was the best of the batch, and then it would sit around for months until I finally was getting sick of it myself!

Or I'd try to introduce a new item, and you could never tell what was going to bomb or start selling like crazy. You've got to just keep making what you like & hope for some like-minded customers.

Really beautiful reflections on both the goblet and the pomegranate. Someone should love this!

A great painting with strong color and contrast!
Whenever I had a really good sell, I would try to paint something in the same line in hopes of another great sell...alas, it was usually not to be.

This is beautiful. You've painted it all with sensitivity and care.

I know what you mean about wondering what kind of painting someone will want to purchase. It's nice to get paid for working, but it's also wonderful to paint what you love, what strikes your fancy or simply caught your eye enough to want to explore it more.

Happy painting!
