As I go back to my familiar fruit and vegetable still lifes I continue to work toward my desired balance between realism and impressionism. I think in this painting I am close to that balance in some areas, so I'm happy. Some artists who ( for my taste ) have reached a beautiful balance and who continue to influenced my work are:
Julian Merrow-Smith
Justin Clayton
Peter Yesis
Qiang-Huang
When I lose my way, I spend time looking at the artists that I admire and become newly inspired. It is not that I want to emulate their style so much, as it is that I strive for expressive sensitive brushwork, expansion of color selection, interesting and strong compositions, and much more. I study what they have done to produce their masterpieces and strive to incorporate into my work what I have learned from their examples. It would be so boring if we could do it all from the beginning. The journey of developing as an artist is the most fulfilling thing that I do.

Love it, Marilyn. Enjoy your day!
That's good advise, Marilyn, sometimes when I'm stuck or need inspiration I spend time looking at paintings of artist's that I admire. Then when I go back to paint, I have a better "feel" for what I want my painting to look like and where i need to improve.
I love seeing your paintings. The young girl wading on the Fresh Paint site is lovely.
