Taking Some Time Off

I have absolutely nothing new to show! I pulled out a couple of video cover illustrations that I did in the early 90's just to have something to share. These illustrations are mostly air brushed acrylic paint with a little colored pencil. The originals are 17"x 12". I hated working with air brush!! I was always a nervous wreck until the work was completed because it wasn't my usual way of creating my art. But I must say that it was quite breath taking when you pealed back that frisket to reveal the work. You just never knew until the end of the process what you where going to get.

Last week was a week of ups and downs with lots going on. Our business ( my daytime job ) was booming, home plumbing problems, getting ready for and attending our 40th high school reunion on the weekend, and one of my closest friends visiting from Holland ( where she has been living for 3 years).

This week I find myself exhausted, and way behind on things around the house. I haven't been able to be creative in this disorganized and messy environment. I think I'll just have to take some more time off from painting and do some serious spring cleaning to feel some peace and calm. My husband and I are serious pack rats and for the last two years while I've been painting, I have let things pile up to an extent where we can no longer find anything and have little room to spread out when attempting some small project. It is overwhelming and I confess that I retreat to my small little painting space in my large studio and tune out the rest. It's time to have garage sales and purge, purge, purge! Maybe like air brush, as I "peel back all the stuff" I'll be surprised at what I get! I hope it's a pretty "picture".

Hi Marilyn, I know exactly of where you speak...way too much going on to be creative...good luck with the reorder...I will look forward to your return...love the illustations!

Marilyn, I know how feel, sometimes there's just too much going on, and painting gets set aside for a while. It's hard to be creative when you've got other more pressing issues on your mind. Take your time, and when things settle down, painting will be that much more enjoyable and productive!!

Thanks for posting this. It has inspired me to post a sketch plan I did once for a Dairy Queen! Just kidding. It was a Wendy's. Your airbrushed girl reminded me. I have to go clean my bathroom now. Never mind.

It's so interesting to see what you did in the past - really nice work. Good luck with the clean up.

Thanks to you good friends! I'm working on the reorder, but it is overwhelming and going slow. I find myself wanting to "escape" to painting again. I have to resist in order to stop the cycle! Ucky work to be done.....

Hi Marilyn. It's a real treat to see some of your airbrush work. I tried to get involved with it around ten years ago. Just couldn't get past the blob and run stage. The compressor and all now sit gathering dust.
I have been painting in overwhelmed conditions for the last few years. Good luck with your spring cleaning...I might get after my spring cleaning next spring..Lol.
I love your blog-would you mind exchanging links with me?

You amaze me with all your talent! Is there anything you can't do? Hope your cleaning frenzy pays off....I know it will. Wish I lived in your neighborhood, I bet your garage sale will have tons of cool stuff.

Dean and Lee, thanks for your comments! Cleaning is very slow, if you could see the "before" shots I took you'd know why! Maybe I'll show them later with the "after" shots. But don't hold your breath, it will be a while. LOL
Dean, I'm linking you now.

These are so wonderful, Marilyn. I love seeing your older work, too. You're such a talented illustrator and painter.
Sounds like you've been having a crazy busy time! I sure empathize! And with the need to de-clutter. It feels so good to unload things every so often! Helps create new space to breath in.

Marilyn, you are singing my song -- I'm dealing with the exact same undertaking right now. My husband wants money for things and I'm more prone to just drive it over to Goodwill... but anyway, I'm doing the same thing you are right now. High five!
